A skilled and diverse community
East Ayrshire has a strong engineering and manufacturing community, with around 80 companies employing 1,500 people.
Today’s engineering and manufacturing sector is made up of an exciting mix of businesses. Many of these companies are concentrated in general engineering, covering everything from mechanical engineering to transport. More innovative areas include aerospace, marine engineering and specialist medical devices.
The industry has strong connections to the Ayrshire College engineering department, developing the next generation of engineers.
Industry is further supported by the Ayrshire Engineering Alliance (AEA) which was set up in 2013 to act as the key industry organisation in the Ayrshire region, representing and uniting companies and organisations involved in the engineering sector supply chain. AEA supports growth within the local engineering sector, through the provision of direct company support, collective marketing and promotion and increased collaboration within the local, national and global sectors.
